Board Game Recommendations for Fans of Marvel SNAP!

“If you like that product/game/food/etc, try this!”

This is often a good way to learn about things that are parallel to something you enjoy. I often want to know this when trying new food, looking for a new show or movie, a great pair of shoes or even when looking for a new song recommendation on Spotify. Today I want to do this for all of you obsessed with the new hotness in mobile and digital games, Marvel SNAP.

Many of you are finding this game to be an enjoyable, quick combat and card play game that scratches the itch of deck building, combat, head to head decision making and combos all wrapped up in the amazing IP that is Marvel. So for those of you that like SNAP, I want to introduce you to some board games that you will enjoy as well. There is a wealth of amazing games out there that will hit some of these same feels while also giving you a great experience of playing games in person with others. Here are some games to check out!

Smash-up

One of the games that this is often compared to is Smash-up. Smash-Up is a game that has recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary as a Hobby game developed and designed by the brains behind Magic the Gathering. If you enjoy the aspect that plays cards to bases, this is the game for you. It is quick, thematic and has some great Marvel characters as well if you really enjoy that aspect of SNAP!

Keyforge

This game took off a while back and has since slowed down but a recent Kickstarter makes me think maybe it is on it’s way back to the forefront. Keyforge gives players a chance to play to gain keys based on how well they strategize their deck of cards that is entirely unique to them.

Unmatched

Taking a cue from an older Star Wars game called Epic Duels, Unmatched gives players a choice of some awesome characters of lore and cinema to battle and gain control of locations. It’s a great one vs one game with all the characters different in what they bring to the table so no two matches are going to be the same.

Magic the Gathering

The granddaddy of them all, Magic the Gathering has been a game that has lasted the test of time as one of the easiest to pick and play head to head deck battles games around. A lot of others have come and gone in its time but this is still the best of the bunch. For a great two player experience similar to SNAP you cannot go wrong with Magic.

Hero and Star Realms

Taking some of the “magic” of the last game, Hero Realms and Star Realms give you a great two player game all in one deck of cards. Players buy cards from a common pool and attempt to attack each other until only one remains standing. Both easy to play and learn, either of the Realms games from Wise Wizard Games will give you exactly what you are looking for in a tabletop battle.

Marvel Remix

A new entry into the gaming world, Marvel remix takes the bones of another game called Fantasy Realms this game is a quick to play hand building game where you design the best combination of heroes and villains in the palm of your hand. Similar to SNAP it’s a quick game with Marvel all over it so if those are your main draw this could be a great fit for you!

Air, Land and Sea

A simple card game but gives you everything you are looking for in a quick to play skirmish game! There are three different areas you play cards to and find ways to beat your opponent head to head. If the bases and playing around them is one of your favorite parts of SNAP, this is a game you should check out!

Disney Sorcerer’s Arena

For a different type of character choice, why not take some of your favorite Disney characters and go to the battle arena to combat? In Sorcerer’s Arena (another popular app game by the way!) you can take some of your favorite characters and fight to the finish to see who can come out on top. Another fun two player skirmish with some of your favorites!
