VNTYPL8S is a party game designed by Clarence Simpson with art from Matt Paquette and Co. The game is published by 25th Century Games. It is designed for 3 to 8 players, has a listed play time of approximately 20 minutes, and is recommended for ages 10 and up.
Overview:
In VNTYPL8S players secretly design a vanity license plate that matches their personality and requirements. One at a time plates are revealed, guesses are made and points are scored. After three rounds the player with the most points wins!
Gameplay:
At the beginning of the game, each player receives an Owner card and a Requirement card. These cards provide the identity and the specific letter/number combo that will guide the creation of a vanity license plate. Players use the information on their cards to invent a personalized license plate using abbreviated letters, numbers, and other combinations that fit both the assigned owner and the stated requirements.
Once all players have created their vanity plates, the plates are revealed to the group one at a time. Everyone then will see the displayed plates one at a time and attempt to determine which owner corresponds to each plate. With a number of roles on the table you have to move quick to try to interpret the clues embedded within the license plate designs and connect them to the appropriate owner identities.
When a player is the first to correctly identify the owner associated with a vanity plate, they take the card as a point scored. The creator of the plate also earns points when other players correctly connect the plate to its intended owner as long as their letter/number combo was used. The game continues through three rounds of creating, revealing, and guessing vanity plates and at the end the player with the most points wins!
Impressions:
We love a good party game over here, and VNTYPL8S gives us a fun and unique entry into that world. Most party games have drawing or guessing of words or phrases, this one makes players come up with a way to creatively give an answer to prompts in a way I have not seen done in the past. In this way, it is a little more challenging than some of the party games we have played in the past.
I really like the guessing part of trying to interpret what the license plate is, there is a creative thinking process of trying to figure out what the creator made while also having to do it as fast as you can to get the guess in before anyone else! We found the younger members of our family did great on the speed but some of us older people were able to deduce quick.
Overall if you’re looking for a game that will give you a unique and new version of a party game, this is one you should grab for your next friend or family gathering!
