Game Review: Got Five!

I love a good deduction game, and it’s rare to find a new one that really stands out. Today we are going to dive deep into a new game and see how it stacks up against the rest!

Overview:

Got Five! is a new deduction game in which each player attempts to identify the five numbered tiles placed on their personal rack. Using clues, information revealed and problem-solving you must be the first to get your five numbers right!

Gameplay:

At the beginning of the game, every player receives five hidden tiles that are arranged in ascending order. The numbered sides of these tiles face away from their owner, allowing every other player to see the values you have. Each player also receives a player board to place behind their screen for recording information gathered throughout the game. A supply of remaining tiles is placed nearby, and one of each of the colored tiles is revealed face up to create a shared pool of information available to all players.

On a player’s turn, they first reveal one new tile from the supply, adding it to the collection of face-up tiles that everyone can examine. The active player then selects one of the revealed tiles and asks a neighboring player for one of two types of clues. One option is to have the chosen tile categorized by its position relative to the player’s five hidden numbers, identifying where it would fit within the ordered sequence. The other option is to compare the chosen tile with one of the player’s hidden tiles using the dots on the tiles, determining whether they share the same dot count. If it matches the number of dots or doesn’t, that info should help you continue to narrow down your numbers. The information provided is public, allowing every player to use each clue during their own deductions.

As more tiles are revealed and more clues are collected, players record observations on their player board to eliminate values and narrow the range of possibilities for each hidden tile. Because all hidden tiles remain in ascending order, every clue can be combined with previous information to really help you figure out the solution!

A player may announce a solution at any time by declaring “Got Five!” and stating the values of their five hidden tiles in ascending order. If every number is correct, that player immediately wins the game! If any number is incorrect, that player is out while the remaining players continue the game until one player successfully identifies all five of their hidden numbers.

Impressions:

I love a good deduction game and this is everything I want in that type of game. It’s quick to learn and play and doesn’t overstay its welcome on the table. We played this at 2, 3 and 4 plyer counts and it’s just as smooth each time.

Deduction of the numbers with the clues starts to click the more you play this game and then it really just starts to become a race to the finish as players jockey for who can get the right answer the quickest. Keep in mind that timing is everything with this game, you need to be able to play fast and find info quickly to beat the others at the table to the right answer for your numbers.

This game was not something that was on my radar before I played it, but let me tell you-it is one of the biggest surprise hits I’ve had at our table in a long time. Everyone loves it, asks to play it again and again and tells their friends about it. That is a sign of a good game!

So if you enjoy easy to learn and easy to play deduction games with just the right amount of pressure, then Got Five! is just the game you are looking for! Bring it to your table for your next game night!
