Game Review: Blob Party

There are a number of party games that I have enjoyed playing with my family and friends over the years. So many of them bring the fun, bring the laughs and give players a chance to really have a good time around the table. But it is rare that one comes along that really strikes me as amazing and a must-play for everyone. Today I am going to share one of those with you!

Blob Party is published by Wizkids, designed by Pam Walls with art by Renee Lasater, Anthony Lewis, and Dona Leppanen. The game plays 4-8 players in approximately 15 mins.

How to Play:

Blob Party is a cooperative party game where players start as individuals and try to become a singular blob by the end of seven rounds. The way this happens is by trying to match up answers given by other players from two chosen cards that give a subject and topic. So something like “Television and Purple”. Each player than tries to give an answer that would match as many other players as possible. They then become a blob and try to answer together.

The game progresses round by round as players give answers together as mini-blobs and ends if and when you can all get into a mega blob together! Players lose if they are unable to do this within seven rounds.

Impressions:

I have had a chance to play this at all player counts including above and beyond the 8 count on the box. Let me say that all player counts work but I have found the more people the merrier with this one. As far as party games go, this is my go-to choice for best party game of the year so far for 2023. I cannot overemphasize how much of a hit this game has been with a variety of people and groups. This will get everyone up and moving around, having fun moving from blob to blob trying to create the Mega Blob for the win. It’s high-energy and one that everyone at your next event will enjoy.

A party game where we are all on the same team? That’s not something I have seen done before and I really, really enjoy it! I have seen party games where we play in teams but the goal of this one is that we all end up on the same team and that ultimately just feels good. There is a push towards unity, a push towards us all being together in this game that really speaks to me. It gives you a chance to get to know others but also shout and cheer in ways to join up as a whole. It also puts people together as smaller blobs or teams as they work to try and get others in the mega blob. This has been a great, easy organic way to see people who normally wouldn’t partner up work together to come up with a great answer.

The game works at the larger player counts but also 8 feels right for the game not to get too out of control. I wouldn’t play this with less than 6 people to really get the feel of how it is supposed to work. We have tried it and it doesn’t feel as wild and fun.

The clay and eyes are a cute addition to the game and I really liked the fun blob art on the boards. The game components are solid and the markers work well and they are exactly what you want them to be-they have held up well for us through many uses.

Overall Blob Party is a game you need to add to your collection at home and is probably the best new party game I have played this year. It’s a ton of fun and will make your next get-together a blast! Check it out and see if you can make your team one with the blob!
