Game Review: WWE Cage Battle

Welcome to the Cage! Today we are going to line up with your favorite WWE stars and hit the ring to see who can survive. It’s time to battle and see who comes out as the winner in this fun and easy to play dexterity game!

WWE Cage Battle is published by Wizkids. It plays 2-4 players in 10 mins. Designed by Charlie Price and James O’Brien.

Overview

WWE Cage Battle has you taking your team of Superstars to pin or stun the ones your opponent brings to the ring. The last team standing wins the round and if you win three rounds you are the ultimate champion!

Gameplay

Players take turns drafting cards for the Superstars and gain the dice to go with them. The dice are placed one at a time on the rope midpoint (the edge of the board) and flick it into the ring. Players take turns alternating dropping their dice into the ring off the top rope until they are all in. Now you can take one of your wrestlers and bring them to the rope to flick in depending on the side it is on. If it is on the special icon you can flick from anywhere, otherwise anyone else is the midpoint. Stunned superstars cannot be flicked and must stay.

If a die falls through one of the holes they have been pinned and are out. You then may flick one of your other dice. The player who is the last standing because everyone else is stunned or pinned is the winner! Continue playing until someone wins three matches and then they win the battle!

You can also play Points Battle where points are awarded based on which side is face up. Pinned dice don’t count towards your points. The first player to reach 21 points is declared the winner of this version!

Impressions

This dexterity game is light on the difficulty but it is definitely high on the fun! I love a lot of different dice chucking dexterity games and this one is similar to other games like Strike and Tumbling Dice in that it is is easy to teach and goes right to the table quickly.

The WWE license is a fun part of this and I like the characters they picked for this version. The variety is fun, modern classics like John Cena and some other favorites like Becky Lynch and Asuka. The graphics are bright and well done on the player cards and really give you a good look at the character. The dice are the stars and are fun representations of the characters with the moves on the sides and their icon/insignia on the head of the die. If you are a fan of any of the featured wrestlers you may want this for those things alone.

The game takes what we already liked in Kung Fu Zoo and adds the wrestling theme. If you enjoy Kung Fu Zoo this game is an easy port of that for a license that some will be excited for. If you are not a wrestling fan. Kung Fu maybe be more up your alley. But I think this one stays true to the thematic aspect of the ring by bringing it into the WWE world.

Overall WWE Cage Battle is the professional wrestling dexterity game you didn’t know you were missing from your life. If you are a fan of the WWE then this is a no-brainer for you. If you are not but enjoy a good quick dexterity game this may be a good addition for your collection as well. So grab your elbow pads and favorite costume and jump into the ring with WWE Cage Battle to see how you stack up against the best!
