Game Preview: Divinus

Lucky Duck Games continues to suprise and engage me with some of the most innovative and entertaining games I have ever played. The seamless integration of old-school game fun and new technology is a great collaboration they pull off without disappointment. Today I am going to preview a new game coming on Gamefound that asks the question “when gods collide, which side are you going to be on?”

Divinus is a new game from Lucky Duck Games designed for 1-4 players over the course a 12 level campaign. It is currently being funded on Gamefound.

Preview/Gameplay:

I played the first two stories in the 12 part campaign last night. This game is everything you like about Chronicles of Crime in the app integration and story driven gameplay mixed with the competitive nature that Destinies added to that genre. The setup and play are simple out of the box-you arrange the tiles and cards in the appropriate piles and make sure all of the boxes are out. Once you start up the app it walks you through the process of setting up the game from selecting player characters to setting up their backstories.

It is a tile-laying game at its core that pushed and pulled in different ways to determine how and what you built with your tiles to win influence with one or both of the two pantheons. The components are solid, the dice and chunky and the game is playable right out of the box very quickly.

The gameplay starts easy and as you advance in the game you can see where your decisions are not only going to impact the game now but will a marked difference as the game progresses through the campaign. I really enjoyed the game progression in only the two games we played but I can’t wait to see how it grows upon itself.

This is a competitive game at its core and I appreciate that it feels more like it than the other app games we have tried from Lucky Duck Games. The basic nature of this title is that it is a tile-laying game that is setting up what I can only imagine are amazing twists and turns as the game builds over the 12 part legacy. Even in these first few games you can see where it is going and there are suprises I didn’t see coming and I love it all.

Do not sleep on this one while it is available on Gamefound! It is bound to be a hit and I cannot wait to see how the campaign plays out. Luck Duck Games has never disappointed and this is looking to be the best experience around a table from them yet!
