One of my first stops after arriving at Origins was to the Renegade Game Studios booth. I met the wonderful Teri who is their social media manager, as well as an excellent mini painter. We talked a bit about Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid, however, there’s not any new info to pass along since we are only about a month away from the game’s release. Recently a new expansion was announced for it that includes alternate universe Ranger versions of fan-favorites Bulk and Skull. But we already knew about that, and it will not be out until after the game’s release.
We talked about some other games Renegade has right now. I was very excited to pick up Lanterns Dice. Lanterns is a reliable family favorite in our house. Lanterns Dice looks to use similar mechanics found in the original and bring them to the world of ‘roll and writes’. Roll and write games seem to be all the rage now a days, and here is another one to scratch that itch. I did get a chance to sit down and play my copy with a friend while at Origins and it was fun. I’m excited to get it to the table with my kids and see what they think.
I also picked up The Tea Dragon Society. Little did I know, later that weekend it would win the Origins Award for Best Family Game! Congratulations to Renegade for winning that award. I have not gotten this one to the table yet, but I’m always up for playing family games with unique art style. The fact that this has just won the award for best family game makes it all that more promising.
You can look forward to seeing reviews for both Lanterns Dice and The Tea Dragon Society in the coming weeks, as well as a fully comprehensive look at Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid when it ships.
