Game Review: Blank Slate Challenge

I love Blank Slate, it is one of the all-time favorite party games in our house and a modern classic. I love getting a chance to play the original and when I heard there was a new version I was ready to get it to the table!

Blank Slate Challenge is 2 or 4 player game published by The Op Games. It plays in 30 mins.

Overview and how to play:

In Blank Slate Challenge players will pair up and work to score the most points possible. Go head to head with another pair or try to beat your best score!

All players take a slate and dry erase marker with a scoring board or each pair. Cards have a blank on them and players will secretly write two answers that would fill in the blank. The top answer should be the one you are most confident to be a match with your partner to score the most points.

Once everyone has their answers, reveal the dry erase boards and score points accordingly. For top word matches score 3 points, for bottom word matches score 1 point and if both match score an additional 2 points. So in one turn a team can score 10 points.

Play continues for ten rounds, flipping a new card each time to reveal the new blank to fill in. After each round players record their points on their point board. After ten rounds the team with the most points wins! If you are a couple playing you can score the total and see where you fall on the list.

Impressions:

I really enjoy the original Blank Slate as stated earlier, and this Challenge version is a great addition to this family of games. One of the best parts of this version is that is ideal for a couple to play together on their own and that is not something the original would have done. It also plays great as a couple vs couple game giving you a fun way to spend time together on your next double date!

Blank Slate Challenge does make it difficult to play for people who may not know each other that well, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This is a fun way to get to know each other and find things you may or may not agree with. I love that aspect of it and can’t wait to keep introducing it to others!

Overall Blank Slate is a great party game and the Challenge edition here gives you a more compact version perfect for your next date night or double date night. I can’t wait to get it back to the table and see if the wife and I can beat our top score!
