Like many of us, we have games on our shelves that have yet to be played. These games and the shelf are called many things – Shelf of Shame, Excess, Opportunity, or the “why are there some many boxes in this room?! Even the picture above is outdated as many more have been added since I took that over the summer and even the kids have their own Kallax for all of their games!Whether they are still in shrink, unboxed and punched, or somewhere in between, you probably have one (or many more….) ready to be played! This is the challenge that I am embarking on this year. To play through as many of these games as possible! But first, let’s discuss how I came to having so many games begging to be played…..
I have a bit of an addictive personality. It is part of my perfectionism tendencies that I have, and are always working to improve upon. With that, I have a want and need to re-create the joy that I have previously had/felt. I find great joy in board games both through playing and because of the people that I play them with. I imagine that due to all of these factors, if I play a game with some friends and its a hit, I tend to buy it to recreate that fun! So, many games are games that I have played with others, but haven’t been able to play my copy. Others are definitely Kickstarter FOMO games where I wanted to exclusives or because it looked amazing. There’s also a few that I picked up during the pandemic that needed more players that what were in the house and I just haven’t gotten to it.
So, with that, I am going to share my entire list of unplayed games. That’s right, I am going to openly share the full list and then chronicle how many I get through this entire year! I hope that you will follow along with me on this journey, and if so inclined, do it with me! Here we go….

Yes, there’s 42 games here…… So will I get to all of them, probably not. Will more be added this year, probably so. But that’s ok!
So here is my plan of attack. I plan to go after some of the specific two player games to play with my wife. So the first ones I hope to pick off the list are: Cosmic Encounters: Duel, Splendor; Duel, That Time You Killed Me, Twilight Struggle and Watergate. Next, the ones that I’ve been dying to play: Anachrony, Dice Throne: Adventures, Fall of the Mountain King, Perseverance, Lacrimosa and Reckoners. After that, it will depend on what and who is around to play!
So, who’s with me? Let’s do this! Be on the lookout for my first of many updates!
