Chai is a game designed by Dan and Connie Kazmaier and published by Deep Aqua Games.
It plays 1-5 players in approximately 45-60 mins. Chai recently wrapped up a Kickstarter campaign in Dec 2018 and successfully funded, hitting all sorts of stretch goals along the way. You can see the original campaign here:

This game is beautiful in quite a few different ways. The gameplay is solid and well designed for smooth play. Each turn felt like it mattered and that you had multiple decisions that were impactful to your overall game. The game has aspects of Splendor with collecting the right components to complete an order that really make it stand out for me. The sliding flavour tiles make for a unique mechanic that adds a nice little touch to the overall game.

The artwork even in this prototype copy already pops. The card artwork is vibrant and colorful and really stands out as fun, whimsical characters. The examples of the metal coins look great and I expect them to be high on my “favorite coins” list. Overall you can tell that a lot of focus has already been placed on how good this game is going to look.
Finally the theme is very beautiful as well. The tea shop owner idea plays very well and taking all the ingredients and dropping them into a cup was just a fun thematic way to “complete” the order. I cant say it is a style I have played before and I really liked how it played. I think the theme alone will grab and bring in some players.
This is a game that is sure to be a hit when it hits the shelf of your local game store. If you happened to miss the opportunity to back this one of Kickstarter, there is a link here to their pledge manager to jump in late at the end of the review.Â
Overall I highly recommend this title for a fun entry-level game that will be enjoyable for new and experienced players alike. For anyone looking for a chance to experience the challenge of owning a tea shop and putting together orders this game is for you!
